It is the policy of the Dr. JoaquÃn Lora Castro Ophthalmology Unit to guarantee a safe and healthy work environment for all our employees, patients, and visitors. Our founder
More than 50 years ago in Chicago, USA, Dr. JoaquÃn Lora Castro received his degree in ophthalmology and otolaryngology.
With a suitcase full of dreams, he began his private practice at the Corominas Clinic in 1968 as a founding partner. His dedication and commitment earned him the trust of patients and colleagues, and he became an example and guide for new generations.
In 1994, after completing his studies in Ophthalmology with a specialty in Cornea and Refractive Surgery in Mexico City, his son JoaquÃn Lora Hernández joined us, transforming from an individual practice to a group practice, so in 2005 we moved to the premises located at 89 Cuba Street, in front of the Emergency area of the Corominas Clinic, where we remained for 15 years.
At the end of 2020, we moved to the Plaza ClÃnica Corominas, located on Cuba Street and Restauración Street. We are located on the 7th floor, in module 708, where we have a spacious and comfortable space for our clients' convenience, where they are served by highly qualified staff.
Dr. JoaquÃn Lora Castro passed away in October 2019, leaving behind a legacy of professional practice that his son continues and that his grandchildren will continue in the future.

CATARACT, CORNEA, ANTERIOR SEGMENT AND REFRACTIVE SURGERY SPECIALIST
In June 1987 he graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from PUCMM, in February 1993 he completed his specialty as an Ophthalmologist Surgeon at the Institute of Ophthalmology "Fundación Conde de la Valenciana" Mexico City and in February 1994 he completed his Subspecialty in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Institute of Ophthalmology "Fundación Conde de la Valenciana" Mexico City

Dr. Amelia Burroughs
PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY AND STRABISMUS SPECIALIST
She holds a PhD in Medicine since 2017 and graduated from PUCMM. She completed her specialty in Ophthalmology in 2022 at INTEC, the Santo Domingo Institute of Technology.
She continued her studies by completing her subspecialty in Pediatrics and Strabismus at the ElÃas Santana Hospital, Santo Domingo, in 2023.
Dr. Larissa Morel
CATARACT, CORNEA AND ANTERIOR SEGMENT SPECIALIST
She graduated with a PhD in Medicine from the Pontificie Católica Madre y Maestra-PUCMM (Puerto Rico National University), 2015-2019. She then continued her studies at the Centro Cristiano de Servicios Médicos (Christian Medical Services Center) ElÃas Santana Hospital, 2017-2020, where she specialized as an Ophthalmologist. From 2021 to 2023, she completed her subspecialty training in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery at the aforementioned center.
Dr. Paola Espinal
ANTERIOR SEGMENT SPECIALIST
She completed her medical studies between 2006 and 2012 at the Pontifical Catholic Mother and Teacher University. From 2012 to 2015, she was an Assistant and Collaborator at the Dr. JoaquÃn Lora Castro Ophthalmology Unit - OFTALMOLORA. She completed her residency in Ophthalmology in 2018 at Fundación Visión, Asunción, Paraguay, and from June 2018 to 2019, she completed her Fellowship in Anterior Segment Surgery at the Dr. JoaquÃn Lora Castro Ophthalmology Unit.
Dr. Angela Rodriguez
SPECIALIST IN INFLAMMATORY EYE DISEASES
She graduated with a PhD in Medicine in 2008 from the Pontifical Catholic Mother and Teacher University. She completed her specialty training as an Ophthalmologist and Ocular Diabetologist at the Jorge Abraham Hazoury Bahlés Teaching Hospital (INDEN) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from 2012 to 2016. She completed her subspecialty training in 2018 as a Specialist in Inflammatory Ocular Diseases at the Nuestra Señora de la Luz Hospital (IAP) in Mexico City.

GLAUCOMA AND ANTERIOR SEGMENT SPECIALIST
From 2008 to 2013, she completed her medical degree at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE). From 2016 to 2019, she completed her specialty in Ophthalmology at the Visión Foundation, Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Catholic University (UCA) in Asunción, Paraguay. By the end of 2021, she had already completed her subspecialty in Anterior Segment and Glaucoma at the Cardio-Neuro-Ophthalmological and Transplant Center (CECANOT) (UASD).
Dr. Federico Estrella
GLAUCOMA SPECIALIST
Graduated with a PhD in Medicine in 2018 from the Pontifical University
Catholic Mother and Teacher, in 2023 she finished her studies in
General ophthalmology at Dr. ElÃas Santana Hospital in Santo Domingo
Domingo and from 2023-2023 he completed his subspecialty in Glaucoma
at Dr. ElÃas Santana Hospital.
Dr. Paola Taveras
ANTERIOR SEGMENT SPECIALIST
She graduated with a PhD in Medicine in 2015 from the Pontificie Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. In 2023, she completed her ophthalmology residency at the Visión Asunción Paraguay Foundation and completed her anterior segment fellowship at Oftalmolora in 2023-2024.
